My heart is crushed

I started talking to this guy who broke up with his ex-gf weeks ago. I know, that's very weird, but he talked to me first, and I have liked him for a while but I didn't do anything about it because I and his ex-gf know each other. We aren't friends though. Anyway, he seemed like he was moving on and we have been talking to each other a lot lately. We have deep convos but everything has remained friendly. Now, he reached out to me saying he got feelings for his ex-gf again. My stomach dropped when I saw the text. He mentioned that he and his ex had a convo and she said he was the right guy at the wrong time. He still really loves her and that broke my heart. I gave him advice and remained calm, but to be honest, I just want to cry. He's my type in every single way. We even have the same top 3 college choices, the same music taste, and the same anime test. We also have a similar sense of humor and we're both very academically sound. I just want to vent because I'm so freaking sad rn.
