In some churches they ask loads of questions, but tell you nothing of themselves.
In another when we had to sit at a 2m distance during covid, someone kept poking me.
He asked me what I was doing. I said praying.
Clearly, that was unusual there.
But my approach and attitude are wrong. I can pray anywhere any time, not before a service. This is not 1965, but 2025z I should be concerned about another’s needs. Smile, introduce myself. And ask how things are going today. They may need to open up. You can then say, You love yo chat to you again after the service. You have an opening. Use it.

It's what churches do to bring people in. And there's nothing wrong with it. If your interest doesn't go beyond attending service you should feel free to tell them so.

usually initial contact and questions\answers for you both...if you decide become official member, they will expect you join committees and volunteer work, but the cliques will leave you feeling ignored socially
