Reading this is absolutely terrible

I get incredibly enraged when I hear about evil or injustice. But thats all this book is about, all the evil being committed in the border. Kids being ripped from their families, crimes against humanity, abuse, racism and pure evil. I specifically stopped being a criminal justice major cause I couldn’t take hearing about this stuff anymore. I have to read over a hundred pages of this stuff.

Why the hell do teachers make us read these books? Why can’t it be like my previous ones and make us read by fantasy and scifi. I have to constantly stop reading in order to calm down. I am more exhausted by reading this than my running two miles in a sweatsuit earlier.

The world can be a cruel, terrible place, my friend. Unfortunately, we need to accept it in order to change it. I'm sorry that it is upsetting to you having to read about this type of subject matter. But it is important that we do in order to rectify it.

Teaching about real life is something a teacher should do. If teachers and students always have their heads in the sand, there won't be any motivation to try to improve things.
That said, there should be some time in the school schedule for a little escapism to encourage the love of reading if nothing else.
