These electric bills in the uk are stressing me out

Why cant u get a straight forward bill? I get estimate readings and i send them my actual readings and they charge me for the estimated readings when i already paid for my readings like wtf?

Should i just get a smart meter? Would that help?

Everything in the UK seems more complicated than necessary. Where I live, Norway, they just bill me for what I have used after I have used it.

@ninalanyon That's pretty much what happens in the UK, though you can have agreements based on estimates. I pay, as do many others, by direct-debit; but the bills for gas, electricity, water and telephone services are easy to understand.

I used to pay be cheque but even then never thought it difficult, despite no head for high-finance. The real awkward ones for complexity are the IT and the telecommunications companies.

What starts to complicate matters is switching suppliers as the government keeps encouraging us to do; to shop around for the best deals among the competitors in what I think should have been kept in State ownership. I can't be doing with that uncertainty, fuss and palaver, doubt any real benefit overall; and stay loyal to one for each utility.

@ninalanyon I'm in the UK and that's how I pay our electricity 👍

@ArishMell @Fluffybull So what's all this malarkey about estimates, accounts in credit, accounts in the red, etc.?

@ninalanyon Haven't a clue. Taking a reading every month and submitting a reading? They must be on a weird tariff 🤷

@Fluffybull They are only making you do what they used to pay visiting meter-readers to do.

@ninalanyon same here in the UK you only get an estimated if you haven't put your readings in on time.

@Fluffybull essentially i think its our tariff but being from q different country i dont understand how this is all worked out. Im a bit confused because in America they charge us on what we used, not estimates.
