Where im at currently.

I don't usually open up like this, but I need to be honest.
Lately I've been struggling a lot with loneliness, depression, and anxiety. My doctors are adjusting my medications, and I'm hoping things improve, but right now it's been a difficult road.
Recovery from drugs and alcohol has given me a second chance at life, and I'm grateful for that. But if I'm being honest, recovery can also feel incredibly lonely. I go to meetings, I talk about what I'm going through, and I keep trying to do the next right thing. Some days, though, it feels like nothing really changes.
I haven't been in a relationship in years, and I miss having someone to share life with. I miss connection, companionship, and feeling understood. It's hard watching life move forward while feeling like you're standing still.
I'm not giving up. I'm going to keep showing up, keep working on myself, and keep believing that better days are possible—even when I don't always feel it.
If you've been through something similar, or if you've ever felt alone in your own struggles, just know you're not the only one. And if you're someone who prays, I'd appreciate one.
Thanks for reading

I've been in recovery from alcohol too, and it's been over a full year since I've had a single taste. I know how lonely recovery can feel sometimes, but I also know it's worth it. Keep showing up, keep doing the next right thing; you've already proven you're stronger than you realize. I'm rooting for you, and I truly believe better days are ahead.

I really get the thing about quitting the addiction, and then nothing changes! I thought I was going to have so much more time in the day, and be so much more productive, after quitting drinking! But in reality it feel like time goes even faster now, and days just melt into each other. I don't have depression, nor am I lonely, so I don't know exactly how you feel, but I really recommend starting a project. For example I started selling art online, and it's almost like a little "career" where I'm in charge, and it comes with its own ecosystem that makes me feel "part of something". It could be anything for you, whatever hobbies you have, even if you aren't very knowledgeable in them. It doesn't have to make money, as long as there's some sort of feeling of progression involved. Everyone always talk about how great their life became when they finally got sober, but that seriously doesn't happen for everyone, and to me it was the most disheartening thing. I did the work, but there was really no reward waiting for me afterwards. I wish people talked more about this side of sobriety, but I'm guessing no one wants to discourage people from getting sober in the first place. I hope you feel better in the future and that the meds start working. Things do change in the brain when you quit an addiction that you relied on for years, so hopefully this is just a transition period for you. I've been sober for around 8 months now, and I still feel weirder every day (I have got major issues with my vegetative nervous system and also cannot sleep through the night now). I think adjusting can take a really long time for some people, so don't lose hope. 🫂

Sorry to hear that. Hope all things work out for you. It is a scary and lonely journey. I hope you find peace and solace. Be kind and kinder to yourself.
