Should I pay this guy more money?
I posted an ad on Nextdoor app, asking for someone to cut down some bushes/ trees ( I don’t know what they are called) that were growing up against my fence, touching the power lines in my next door neighbor’s yard.
A guy answered and said he would cut down for $100, and haul off branches, but for $175 he would cut all the branches around my fence. I asked for his CashApp and when he came out, I showed him where I wanted him to cut. For $100
So I went to work while he was cutting the trees down and he messaged me and said he was almost finished and asked me to go ahead and send the money and he would finish the next day because it was raining and about to storm. So I sent him $100 by CashApp.
The next day I was at work and he texted me and said to send him the rest of the money! I was confused because I had said I could pay $100 and showed him the section I wanted cut, but he took it upon himself to cut all the trees against the whole fence that he said he would do for $175 which was not what I wanted done because I didn’t have that much to spend!
On top of that, he left a ton of heavy branches in my yard that I can’t lift by myself and now no one can mow around them!
I texted him and said it was a misunderstanding and that I just wanted the small section that was touching the power lines cut- not my entire yard.
I told him that I would pay him the rest of the money from the $75 in installments, and I sent him $ 20, and plan on sending a little each week till I pay it off.
Not only did he not answer me back, he still hasn’t come back and hauled off all the branches in my backyard and it’s a huge mess. And on top of that, all of a sudden I am getting TONS of spam emails in the email address I used for CashApp. Not saying he’s responsible, but the spam started coming that same day.
Would you pay him the rest of the $75, since it was a misunderstanding and he didn’t haul off the branches?
