I re-watched some old childhood movies to see how they hold up

Pokemon, the first movie... doesn't hold up

Bionicle 2: Legends of Metru Nui. Just as beautiful as I remember

Have you done this lately?
Jessmari · 41-45
I tried a few times to have my nephews watch some of the classics I grew up with (Labyrinth, An American Tail, The Secret of NIMH, Treasure Planet, etc.), but they just couldn't sit through them. They still hold up to me though.

@Jessmari I like a lot of those old Don Bluth movies, especially The Land Before Time
Jessmari · 41-45
@caPnAhab The first one. They milked that cartoon to an insane degree. I think there was 14 movies in all?
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
@Jessmari yes, the first one lol. I never saw any of the later ones
when I do it's normally a colossal failure. greatest american hero wasn't that great. battlestar galactica (original) was much cheesier than I recalled. kinda afraid to look tpp hard at more old stuff.

@stound seems more often than not that it's the case. I guess finer details will slip past most kids
@caPnAhab yeah. I think sometimes some things are just right for a certain age range. and sometimes that even applies to at a certain time. like I don't think kids today would like most of what I thought was awesome as a kid. kinda like when adults were trying to make me read 'new classic' novels; they just didn't resound with me in the same way. but when I come back to them at the age my parents were ... oh, yeah, this is really quite good. life and entertainment is weird.
Oh....Titan A.E - still brilliant. Matt Damon and Drew Barrymore....featuring the unrivaled voice characterizations of John Liguziamo, (Sid form IceAge)

The Road to El Dorado ....got to be in my top three FAVES OF ALL TIME, (or all movies in general)....funny, heartfelt, fantasic casting....music by Elton John. 🥰...i watch its alt least once a year 🤗
Can nearly quote half the movie now 😂

Akira - for its era it was the most fucking brutal and violent animé id ever seen.
Still love its darkness.
@Jessmari Oh Lort ...wasnt it tho !!
i was shocked...guts being ripped appart every where 👀.

Quite a step up from Spiderman🤣😂

But it blew my mind open to what animés potential was gonna be.

Now we are at the level of stuff like ❤❌🤖, and its just beautiful 🤗
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
@OogieBoogie @Jessmari Akira is on my watch list. But that list is pretty long
@caPnAhab excellent✌
Im a cartoon fan .... have been all my life.
(Prolly even a bit of a snob about it).

Always in awe of fantasy and how movies and animation make dreams come to life.

We get so spoilt these days. The quality of cinematography, cgi and animation is surreal.

But some movies and animé hold the test of time. Those with good stories and brilliant plots....amazing characters.

Those that come to mind are
Cowboy Beebop....always good😂
Darkside Blues .... brilliant dark feels of the original early animé genre.
And as a series ....DangerMouse and Trapdoor....silly, but still good🤗
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
@OogieBoogie yep, I'll always be a fan of cartoons.

All I know about Cowboy Bebop is it's got an awesome soundtrack. But sometimes that's just enough to get me started
@caPnAhab its a lot of fun.
Its about backdoor deals and bounty hunting that usually goes terribly wrong for ethical reasons. Funny fight scenes.
Original anime of the space cowboy genre that really stepped deep into the vibe.
(Up until then it had just been Voltron and Galaxy Rangers and shit), still good, but CB just took it to another level with its dialogue and action...a few titty shots if i remember correctly 😂)
Deliberate 70's style anime, very Starsky and Hutch feels. Afro Hair, big lapels with guns and boobies...... in space 😜
The original DUNE still holds up .

Laughable special effects....but still incredibly well done, good story telling .

And of course

...The ever classic

...Never defeated

...Rocky Horror💋
