It's a way of learning from ones mistakes. Instead of "should have could have" you can turn it into "if something similar happens again I can/will..."
Even if it's something that could never happen again (for whatever reason) it teaches your brain to think of alternate solutions more efficiently, which in turn will help you in different situations in the future.
