We always question ourselves, don't we? Thinking maybe we could have done more. Been there too. You can't beat yourself up over the inevitable. We know going into it, that when a dog becomes a family member, if you do your job right...there will be heartbreak in the end. It's how it works.

It really can. But that capacity to love that you have will be ready when the next pet adoption opportunity presents and you can embrace it when the time comes and help give a better life to another canine.
Don't waste too much energy on guilt,there's better things in life. I hope your loss gets better in time.

What happened? And I'm sorry you lost your dog.

I think it’s just something that is. My mum has told me on a couple of occasions that she’s felt guilty a few times in her life. Her mother’s dog is one of them. I was 3 or 4 years old. There are pictures of me feeding said dog and possibly when my memory is super good I can even remember chasing her. I was too young to understand though. As an adult now I can imagine how it must feel.

I will say that the pain and longing will diminish, but you will never forget. It does get better.

You have other pets?

I have 2 dogs and it helps to have another when one dies, they will help you grieve and start to feel better.

Why are you feeling guilty? Did you cause his death?
