I knew I didn’t want to be an adult anymore when I found out a basic oil change costs $60.

I’d get up underneath my car and do it myself if I hadn’t seen so many Final Destination movies 🙄

ah well. think of it as 8 PSL's

MellyMel22 · F
Mine is more than that! The guy gives me his employee discount though b/c my mom used to work there, but it’s still expensive.
DownTheStreet · 56-60, M
I figured guys like up for the chance to change your oil
PerfectionOfTheHeart · 46-50, F
@DownTheStreet I know way too many mechanically inclined guys for that not to be a thing for me.
DownTheStreet · 56-60, M
@PerfectionOfTheHeart I could have stopped there couple weeks ago and changed your oil with you
PerfectionOfTheHeart · 46-50, F
@DownTheStreet if I would’ve noticed that I needed an oil change I would’ve hit you up. But we both know I would’ve rather taken advantage of the helicopter ride. I’ve only had that experience once and it was truly magical.

My dad made all of us learn how to change the oil, tires, and headlights. I still pay to have it done lol that's dirty work
SirLirkALot · 46-50, M
ah tks hun ☕🎃
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
I always do mine, still not so cheap though
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@PerfectionOfTheHeart I'll have to say, everything is expensive
PerfectionOfTheHeart · 46-50, F
@Virgo79 Sadly true. I type as I sip me $6 iced coffee I’d gladly pay more for.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@PerfectionOfTheHeart must be good, enjoy🙂

I change my own oil…. Have for years
Cost me that much just for the stuff
I paid 65 last time, but they rotate tires, change fluids, vacuum etc.

I found it worth it
@Royalewithcheese small town, maybe that's why, idk.

I just looked up the average cost in the town I live in. And it said, average price for an all inclusive oil change is 59 to 79 dollars.

So i guess location is a factor
PerfectionOfTheHeart · 46-50, F
@Bexsy Simpler times, man.
BrandNewMan · 61-69, M
@Bexsy @Bexsy .. Girl .. he's straight up flirting with you at that price 🤭
Livingwell · 61-69, M
I pay about $160 for my synthetic oil change.
Livingwell · 61-69, M
@Omw2betterdays A Dodge Ram truck uses 9 qts of oil. Synthetic is more expensive.
Omw2betterdays · 18-21, FNew
@Livingwell I wasn't thinking about trucks but I bet those are expensive to fill and takes a lot of oil
PerfectionOfTheHeart · 46-50, F
@Livingwell That makes sense. The list expensive vehicle I had oil changes with was the SRT. That was about a $100 a pop.
Munumbis · 46-50, M
I change oil in trucks and tractors all the time.
PerfectionOfTheHeart · 46-50, F
@Munumbis it’s definitely a life skill everyone should have.
You should have seen the way all my coworkers changed oil back when I did that job. They wouldn’t lock the lift like you're supposed to, and then they would get underneath the multi-ton vehicle without the proper safety mechanism.

One of them once had to dodge a piece of the lift falling because he didn't lock it. Cried because it scared him so much, went home, then came back the next day and did things the exact same way without locking the lift before getting under the car.

I'm surprised they haven't all been Final Destination'd.
@Omw2betterdays Eventually I think I will have to go back to that field of work. Hopefully I find a good crowd instead of another one like that.
Omw2betterdays · 18-21, FNew
@SinlessOnslaught it's good money but you have to be able to enjoy the people you work with in any job to be happy there
@Omw2betterdays Yep. I will not accept a toxic work environment.
I just paid $150 for one the other day...but they also did change 2 bulbs in the back which were burnt out...not that that's a costly expense but it was nice they did it. The oil itself costs about $70 because it's some some special synthetic oil my dumb car needs.
RoxClymer · 41-45, M
where are you going for an oil change the dealer? the quick lube places around me aren't charging more than $40
PerfectionOfTheHeart · 46-50, F
@RoxClymer Noooo. The dealer would be so much higher and they’d want to do all sorts of unnecessary work to it. It’s just a newer car so full synthetic is required. The car’s a princess like that 🙄
Degbeme · 70-79, M
If you did do your own oil change, would you be wearing a cut off t-shirt and daisy dukes or is that just me. 🤔
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@Omw2betterdays Too late. Plus she`ll get me back. 😅
PerfectionOfTheHeart · 46-50, F
@Degbeme Meanwhile, you and your buddies in the old days congratulating yourselves on a job well done…

Degbeme · 70-79, M
@PerfectionOfTheHeart Yeah we made some bad choices. 😖
JohnnyNoir · 61-69, M
I used to change mine all the time. Seems like car manufacturers have now decided to put the filter in a place only mechanics can get to it
PerfectionOfTheHeart · 46-50, F
@JohnnyNoir Exactly why I’m not fond of newer cars.
BrandNewMan · 61-69, M
Ain't it the truth? I do my own unless the vehicle is in the shop for something else anyway.
Honestly - even if you do it yourself, buying the good quality oil can be more than half that cost.

I did mine once.... and ONLY once - all the fucking around under the car was worth the bit extra just to pay someone to do it.

Here an oil change is like $150 - $250 ...its bullshit how expensive everything is😡
