So, was lying in bed having a thought.

The thought being I could just lie here all day long, if Life allowed. Just me. My covers. My dog. My tumbler filled with water and a protein bar as I contently watch people workout on Instagram.

But then the universe did something as I flicked up on my screen.

Yep. Donuts. A slew of them staring me in the face knowing good and well I can’t have any…can’t even think about any if I want to continue on the feel-good path I’m dedicated to. And do you know what that path does not include? Staying in bed and denying my body, mind, and heart the forward motion they all crave. They all need. Which I gotta admit, feels pretty damn rude when the bed is warm and the sunlight is soft.

Oh well. I shall dream as I do the hard things. That’s what being human is after all.

I empathize. I made a commitment a year ago to improve my eating and lose a bit of weight. I wasn’t overweight, by a long shot, but I wasn’t feeling healthy. Gave up most sweets. Reduced the alcohol and caffeine. Upped the fruits and veggies. It made a big difference and I feel so much healthier.

But I haven’t had a donut in a year and I love the damn things for a weekend breakfast! The sacrifices we make….

@Harmonium1923 I’m so proud of you for that. It’s such hard work to commit yourself to what’s best for you given the temptations out there. That feel-good rush from choosing the right path? It doesn’t fade as quickly as a sugar rush does. It’s the rush that truly sticks with you making it easy to choose it time and time again. I’m obsessed with it honestly.

@PerfectionOfTheHeart That’s well said. I’ve learned to take pleasure in the good choices which, as you say, may have less immediate pleasure but are longer lasting. I also introduced some new habits—like a cup of peppermint tea most nights before bed. I’m a creature of habit so small things work well for me. Climbing stairs instead of taking the elevator. That type of thing.

@Harmonium1923 Love the peppermint tea route. That was a big part of my kicking coffee and it’s something I’ve recently picked up again.

Those little things really add up. I deliberately park far away in parking lots just for those extra steps.
