Some say that we are already in hell and that heaven is where we go in the afterlife.
In my own words and my theory: We living humans and beings co-exist with the dead/spirits/ghosts. Reason for us to not see the dead, is because there's a thin veil that separates us and the dead, and that thin veil prevents the living from seeing the dead. Since the dead had already lived and died, they are able to see and witness the living.
