Prisons are probably the most non-transparent functions of government. Frighteningly so.

@Heartlander Had a manager who was a retired warden from a prison. I can believe what you say from the way she was managing the department. Would tell us there was no money in the budget for raises and she did it several times. Come to find out after I retired I found out she was having breakfasts and lunches catered every day for herself and all of the supervisors and leads…every single day. They cut the number of workers so that our workloads were almost impossible (couldn’t keep new hires because of it) and tell us if we couldn’t get everything done during work hours to work through our breaks and lunch. They were sitting on their fat asses stuffing themselves paid for money from not giving us raises and expecting us to bust our butts.
Employees were former gang members. Much vetting done on potential hirees?

@soar2newhighs Exactly. I don’t know how they think when they don’t vet them well.

Big problem in all the jails

@SW-User Overcrowding, trying to balance the budget, and not enough guards are among the problems in the Oklahoma County Jail.

@cherokeepatti alot of the guards are as bad as the prisoners. Just mindless bullies.
You want an unfriendly town? Go to any of the prison towns upstate here. 90% of the people work for the prison. The rest are in halfway houses.
In Rikers here we had a doctor who was pooning many of the female inmates. In exchange for Popeye's Chicken (not making that up) 😁

@SW-User I can believe that many are bullies, my father was a military prison guard in Leavenworth for a short while.
