I Had a Near Death Experience
At this point in my life I’ve had 3 near death experiences, and I hope that’s all I will have, because it is something that I don’t wish upon anybody.
I was born with hyaline membrane disease and developed bronchopulmonary dysplasia, which caused me to suffer from a pneumothorax at just 6 days old, they gave me a 2% chance of survival, which is extremely low. I was meant to die, and somehow, I didn’t.
Fast forward 17 years, and I was in a horrible car accident with one of my closest friends.
At the time I wasn’t aware that she had been drinking, and she did not let me know that she was intoxicated before i let her get behind the wheel. I wasn’t wearing a seatbelt when we crashed either, which was my fault, and now I realize that I wouldn’t have gotten so severely hurt if I had been wearing my seatbelt. We hit a concrete barricade on the highway going at about 78mph. We were both incredibly lucky to have lived to through that. Nevertheless, now I don’t go anywhere without making sure every person inside the vehicle is wearing their seatbelt.
And 2 years ago, I was shot at multiple times during a chase, when I still worked for the police department. Luckily they missed me, and I was only hit on one of my legs. Regardless, it is one of the most terrifying things that have ever happened to me, since the only thing rushing through my head at that moment in time was “I’m going to die tonight.”
At this point, I’ve made peace of all of these experiences, (even though I’m still in counseling, since my fiancé insists that I talk to someone about these things) I have a habit of joking about unfortunate things that have occurred in my life, despite the fact that my family doesn’t really appreciate my dry humor un regards to the fact that I almost died. 😂 I mean I think it’s funny, i always say that I’m practically immortal, and that if I haven’t died by now, I never will.
