It is my understanding that the shooter didn't want a relationship with the dad anymore and the father didn't push it. I don't think it's so much lack of a two-parent household as it is his mental issues. Maybe "lack of father figure" is in the periphery, but does not take center stage.

He was a wackadoo, period. Having/not having a father isn't going to change that.
