meaningful connections are a fantasy you have when you are younger because you are still under the illusion that someone cares about you

but the truth that even very old people fail to grasp is that friendship is in fact a waste of time because nobody cares about you and you go through your whole life alone even though you may not have realized it

the idea of having friends is a phase you go through that dies when you learn to really internalize that all human relationships are selfish and all mammals are ego driven

that isn't necessarily depressing, it is also liberating in that you can start over all the time, because nobody cares

i understand that we live in a conditional existence and that connections are impermanent, subject to whims, that doesnt mean we cant strive for an ideal. if you give up before u start, its already over
