Can someone explain the benefits of outlawing abortion?

In the 49 years Roe v. Wade was in place, the crime rate in the U.S. plummeted, the overall standard of living went up, more people were educated, technology advanced, and women and minorities enjoyed greater equality. The U.S. also became the sole superpower. You can argue that none of these were related to abortion, but that suggests abortion has no effect on anything. Some of the negative outcomes of outlawing abortion could be:

Increase in the maternal death rate for women who needed abortions for their own health-related reasons
Increase in the infant death rate for children with genetic defects who otherwise would have been aborted
increase in abandoned children and "dumpster babies"
Increase in poverty and child abuse of unwanted children
Growth of a black market in abortion, from "back alley" clinics, drug dealers selling abortion pills, and legitimate doctors performing abortions for their patients
Lower birth rates as more women opt for sterilization out of fear that they won't be able to have an abortion if they need one

So what are the benefits? I'm not looking for abstract platitudes like "increased respect for life" or other vague pronouncements. Abortion is illegal in Guatemala, but I wouldn't point to that country as one where life is respected. I'm asking for specific, concrete benefits. This may be difficult as countries where abortion is illegal tend to have less individual liberty and prosperity than countries where it's legal or at least easily accessible (for example, abortion is illegal in Malta, but Maltese women have an abortion rate similar to other EU countries because they simply go to Italy for their abortions).

There are none. I suspect more women in states where abortion is considered a homicide will be spending time in prison for a miscarriage while the father takes care of the kids, destroying the nuclear family that conservatives want.

@Puppycat23 No pro life advocate wants to see any woman go to prison for an abortion. Treatment for Miscarriages, and ectopic pregnancies have always been legal in remain legal today. in every state in the country..

Reports about doctors being unable to treat miscarriages an egg topic pregnancies are false. The only doctors who fear are those who have done abortions and have used a “ woman’s life “ excuse. With medical technology, A woman’s life in danger is so rare today that it’s almost never.

@Puppycat23 no woman has been sent to prison for having a miscarriage

@missyann she was talking future. Not yet!

@Handfull1 I apologize
missyann · 56-60
@Handfull1 Who are these women ? I would love to read their stories, and if I am wrong, I will apologize for the statement I made.
Handfull1 · 61-69, F
@missyann 2 were just written about in our newspaper and several articles have been written about similar situations. I’m sure many can say biased news but they were going to speak before some legislatures so not fake news. One nearly died because the dead baby was not removed. These might be rare cases but do happen. The waters are very muddy right now. I had two babies die and neither aborted spontaneously. I can’t even imagine.
missyann · 56-60
@Handfull1 What are their names and I will look them up.
Handfull1 · 61-69, F
@missyann I don’t have the newspaper any more. I’m sure there are enough cases to look up. All I’m saying is some of the stories are true. Just like you’re correct that some are missing details. Every state is different right now. And where will it end?
missyann · 56-60
@Handfull1 do you know the name of the newspaper ?
Handfull1 · 61-69, F
@missyann Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
@missyann Then tell your legislators to pass a law making the miscarriage exception absolute and unquestionable. If a doctor says the woman had a miscarriage, then that will be the official outcome and his judgment cannot be questioned. But you don't want that because you think doctors will give women abortions and lie about them being miscarriages. So your exception won't work in the real world.

Given a choice between legal abortion and no abortions at all for any reason, not even to save the mother's life, I think we all know what side you'll pick.
missyann · 56-60
@LeopoldBloom Tell me why pro life Dr’s don’t question miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy and treat them. There isn’t one state in this country that doesn’t have exceptions, for saving a mother’s life. Both of these conditions can be proven. I get this information from my Gyn who has said women with a condition that requires questionable immediate treatment a OB Gyn that specializes in high risk pregnancies would be called in. They obviously haven’t been

I have said that NOT ONE innocent baby has had to be intentionally and deliberately killed to save a mother’s life. Ectopic pregnancy the baby has to be removed to save a mother, but the babies are treated with dignity. They aren’t ripped apart. The intention is to save the mother not to kill the baby. After 21 weeks an induction or a c section can be done to save both the mother and the baby.. A miscarriage the baby has already died. Yes, in cases when a mother needs cancer treatment sometimes the baby tragically doesn’t survive.

Yes, I would support a legal abortion to save a mother’s life but I don’t know of one time a baby must be intentionally and deliberately killed to save a mother’s life
Handfull1 · 61-69, F
@missyann wow…you are incredibly naive. How could you ever make such a blanket statement because you don’t know of any? And don’t even say all baby’s are treated with dignity. I had to fight for my baby after a miscarriage. I ended up lying and obtaining her illegally just to bury her.
missyann · 56-60
@Handfull1 Did I say that there were none or did I say that I don’t know of any? I don’t know of any, my Gyn doesn’t, , Dr’s who have spoken at pro life events have said they don’t know any. Who would be afraid to treat a miscarriage , an ectopic pregnancy or a woman who has cancer and needs chemotherapy or radiation because they know those can be life-threatening. Whether they do or not, I don’t know., Of course I cannot say that there aren’t any I’m sure there are

I’m sorry that you had to go through what you had to. Do you know for a fact that the Doctor Who treated your miscarriage was pro life? You should not have had to lie about anything to obtain. Your baby’s remains to bury her.

Not how it sounds!
missyann · 56-60
@Handfull1 How does that sound to you?
missyann · 56-60
@Handfull1 Another thing I said was that at topic pregnancy’s when the baby is removed, it is treated with dignity and respect. I do believe that miscarriages should be the same.
@missyann I didn't say that no woman is getting treatment. But there are now cases where women are not getting needed treatment because the hospital lawyer tells the doctor that it's too risky.

Here's an ad you're going to see. Trump did this.

@LeopoldBloom I have never said that these women, especially this one didn’t want their pregnancies or these cases weren’t tragic. ALL I am asking you were doctors who specialize in neonatal care and high-risk pregnancies called to consult ? why doctors are trained to recognize and treat all life-threatening emergencies? And why since every state in our country recognizes the exception of a mother’s life can pro life doctors recognize this and only those who support abortion don’t because the language in the laws confuses them. I would never trust a Doctor Who who would second guess whether they could save my life or not because the state laws confuses them Can you also tell me 100% that there were no other treatments except abortion that could save their lives ? which, of course had to be performed by an abortion doctor instead of in a hospital setting by a surgeon.

If Democrats are elected and succeed at overturning some of the abortion bans, I can say, because millions of babies will continue to be killed in spite of their mothers lives not being threatened that a
“ so & so “ ( name ) did this “ It may have been Donald Trump, who brought the new conservative Supreme Court justices into the issue, but pro life voted for him some of us mainly because one of the issues he ran on was pro life. So blame all of us, not just Donald Trump because all all pro life did this

Are you can say all you want that treating in that topic pregnancy is an abortion procedure but what makes it different is the baby is not ripped a part and pulled out of a woman in and 99.9% of the time Hass to be done to save a mothers life. . The intention is completely different. Also, it is to save a mothers life unlike an elective abortion which is she deliberately and intentionally end the life of the baby
@missyann I blame Donald Trump and the vicious, anti-abortion politicians and judges he empowered, who created this situation where a doctor has to even consider for one minute if he risks going to prison for providing necessary care.

Would you support an exemption where if a doctor says a pregnancy is life threatening, his judgment cannot be questioned? I doubt it, because you would say that will allow doctors to terminate any pregnancy and just say it was necessary to save the mother's life, even if it wasn't.

What difference does it make if the fetus is "ripped apart" or not? Are you saying medication abortions for early termination are OK because they resemble a heavy period, but late-term abortions aren't because they're icky? Should we outlaw open-heart surgery? It's pretty gross.

Just as kids killed in war are "collateral damage," the dead ZEF is also collateral damage in the medical procedure to end pregnancy. Intention is irrelevant. Tell some kid who was blown up by a bomb that you didn't mean to kill him, you only meant to kill the soldier next to him.
missyann · 56-60
@LeopoldBloom You blame Donald Trump. I applaud him for being the only president to have a pro-life platform and actually work and did something about it.

I’m not sure how many times I have to say this, but a doctor is trained to know the difference between a condition that’s life-threatening and one that is not. And every state in the country allows for exceptions for a mothers life and that is never going to change.. no dr. ever needs to intentionally and deliberately kill an unborn life lto save the mother even in cases when the doctors knew the baby may not survive. What is the problem with trying to save both lives ? Why do you think that it is an it is a medical necessity to intentionally and deliberately kill an innocent unborn life, to save the mother? Or what kind of condition makes an abortion the only option ? no doctor should have any fear of treating a life-threatening emergency

99.9% of American soldiers do not seek out and intentionally and deliberately kill innocent children just to kill them yes tragically some are killed. Usually because their country has no respect for them, and use them as shields.. on the other hand, abortion only seeks out to intentionally and deliberately kill innocent unborn lives. No one is against abortion pills because they produce a bloody mess we are against them because they’re purpose is to intentionally and deliberately end human life
@missyann Doctors are trained to know when a woman will die from giving birth, and should be allowed to do their jobs without fear of prison. It's not enough to just have an exception in the law.

What is a doctor supposed to do with an ectopic pregnancy? Saving the embryo isn't an option. It's attitudes like yours that are the problem. All you need is an overzealous DA who thinks ectopic pregnancies can be "reimplanted." This was literally proposed in Ohio.

https://consultqd.clevelandclinic.org/new-ohio-bill-falsely-suggests-that-reimplantation-of-ectopic-pregnancy-is-possible

Tell your legislators to add a provision in these bills that gives doctors an absolute and unquestionable exemption if you don't want them playing it safe and letting women die because they would rather have a malpractice suit than a prison sentence.

It doesn't matter if soldiers aren't deliberately killing kids; their deaths are inevitable. I could also say that no one has an abortion with the goal of killing the ZEF. The woman just wants to end the pregnancy, and the ZEF's death is just a side effect.
