What's wrong with being the victim?

Why do people victim blame, why do they add insult to injury, why do they say oh you're playing the victim, like it's shameful to be a victim. People get upset and try to prove to you that you are not the victim.

It depends on if you really are a victim. I've met so many people that behave like they were wronged but refuse to acknowledge their own part to play in what happened or that they're not a victim at all.

People think in terms of cause-and-effect. We're programmed by nature to see patterns, sometimes even when there are none to be had. Our brains have a hard time accepting randomness or chaos.

We blame the victim because it resolves the uncertainty of randomness in our head. It's not that something bad happened to you because of bad fortune, but because you did something to bring it on yourself. It assigns a cause to the effect we witnessed.

It's a stupid and frustrating part of human psychology that most people never have the awareness to challenge

People pretend to be victims when they're not. It's an emotional ploy. And yes, it's shameful. It's a tool for the mentally weak.
