It all depends on the relationship. How well do they know each other? Friend of the family? If it REALY maters to YOU then by all means tell the teen.
However if it's a family/informal gathering I don't care what you call me. I am well aware I am forgetful too. I certainly don't want to have him/her upset by anything.
example: My daughter is still married to her children's father, Jay cheated with her cousins G.F. Jay is now living with another woman. All the family is fine with this. It's simply another day. She met and fell in love with Chad who moved in with her...and all four of her boys...And Chad brings in his daughter Meagan.

Okay, I see, You want to teach what is proper in addressing ones elders. Unless there is no other
person(s)to intervene, he should be learning this in School. My immediate thought would be to ask the bosses secretary. If he is NOT joining the company as an employee, Then just know to take notes in meetings, and do your best.
