Yeah. At my university there were student groups made for people of certain ethnicities. Why can't white people have one too?
@5thApprentice: They can, but white isn't an ethnicity.

@5thApprentice: I've never really understood the need for ethnic student unions. But, I guess there's enough people who join them or else they wouldn't continue to be popular.

@Brando: Neither is Black, but there's lots of Black student unions.
@BlueMetalChic: I agree, and the goal should be to get rid of all of these, but white America certainly looks at blacks as a "race." And we know the history of that "race," and how it has been treated.

@Brando: I understand that people tend to gravitate towards people of their own skin color or race or heritage or whatever and they like to stick together. It seems unnecessary though in cases like schools.
@BlueMetalChic: I agree -- not sure when self-segregation became the ideal.

@Brando: of course white isn't an ethnicity I simply mean ethnicities where people usually have white skin shouldn't be exempt from having their own union or group just cause they're white. I hate the ethnic student unions altogether myself and never joined the one for mine. In my eyes, I preferred to just be among all people. But to say no to a white student union but allow brown/ black ones...that seems a little iffy.
@5thApprentice: I agree, they should be allowed. I can't imagine what kind of student would join one, though. Perhaps a harder question is what about white student groups at a black college?

@Brando: I say why not? If it were the other way around no one would bat an eyelash and probably say it's a good thing? The only reason why someone might support a minorities student union and not a white one is that whites are priveleged and don't need it or they might be a secretly racist group..which is absurd and an almost racist assumption in itself.
@5thApprentice: It would make more sense to be sure, but I bet would never happen. They would be too scared.
