Any sure fire methods to get out of a rut?

I just feel stuck and in some respects unable to move forward. I don't want to keep just going through the motions of life.

Pick one thing, go for the smallest. Complete it and move to the next. If you get momentum for the love of God don't stop. If you do get stopped though then start again on the next item.

@Halcyon: I really think this is what I need to do. Thanks for reminding me

@Elegy that's a great answer!

I've always found that helping others in some way, even in the most seemingly ineffectual ways can make the biggest impact. It gives us life, renewed meaning. Helping yourself is helping yourself. It's a gift that keeps on giving. Tirelessly.

There's that and then there's finding good distractions. Anything that'll disrupt the well worn beaten path is what the doctor ordered. Routines can sometimes kill the soul ( not really but you understand) So shaking it up a bit and helping out might work in your favor. As long as you stay moving all is well. I wish you the best in everything you do! You'll find your way back, don't worry🤗💕

I have always found doing something what benefits me helps. For example, joining a gym to get healthier, always seems to bump me out of my rut.

Dealing with the same .. but what's worked before for me (see @Pherick's and @Halcyon's responses) isn't cutting it so far this time. Gonna have to focus harder or get outside the box a bit more I think ..

Good question. Make a list of what's most important to you, in your life, and then think of ways to really appreciate those things. Treat yourself to something you wouldn't normally do.

@theowl: I'm great at setting goals, it's just doing the things necessary to achieve them is where I fall short.

so its just the motivation to see them through.

@theowl: And not getting overwhelmed by everything that I'm facing

Join a Pilates class or martial arts class , take a night course at a local college. Being in a new environ with new people is the quickest way to shake things up

Spend some quiet time reflecting on what's really special to you, and go after it. Ruts, like most mood thoughts, are mostly self inflicted. 😉

Hope you found something you get lost in doing for hours. I learned that helps.
