How much is Copper wire worth?

I've heard of people ripping it out of the walls of derelict houses to sell for scrap. I even heard of a hotel that had a fire in one of its rooms so it had to close for repairs, and whilst it was boarded up someone had snuck in and pilfered the copper.

It brings good money. There’’s a dumpster diving guy in Houston who found discarded copper water filters from a water treatment plant. They were used so long that they had turned green. He got them out of the dumpster and they brought hundreds of dollars. I think over $450 just for those 4 filters. He takes the copper pipe off of every discarded water heater, and other things like wires and separates it. Copper sells for the most money of all the metals he recycles. The current price is $5.00 per pound or lower depending on the grade of the copper. There are several grades.

We had a vacant rental that had some of its copper wires removed

It is about to get worse
Drug addicts steal it.
Must be quite decent. Scrappers go wild on anything vacant for a length of time. They're rather dangerous when urbexers cross them while exploring.

Closed shopping malls were a big target across the U.S for a while.

Hydro supply yards; even electrical transformers, are a target sometimes also, with tragic outcomes.

People steal that shit , go sell it, and use the money to make meth.

About as much as a tweaker can get for it.
