Luck? What is it? I don't know.
I won't bore you with the story, but I've been without a job since 2025. I'm beginning to run low on money and dipped into what was supposed to be my retirement.
The IRS and the state of NJ came after me for tax issues(H&R Block messed up) on top of all this.
I also decided last year to put on what became a successful suicide awareness seminar at the church I work at. On my way to pick up equipment last month(which I found out later I didn't need) POW! something cracked my windshield. Pft.
Another person left my Beatles band, we had JUST begun playing out and he bailed. Oof.
Last week, I played as a last-minute substitute drummer for an Elton John/Billy Joel tribute in PA. I thought I covered it pretty well, having just a few days' notice. Well, got another call today for another Elton show!
That's a great resume builder. I've played and continue to play original music, but I've also played in tributes to The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Elton John, Billy Joel, 80s music, and classic rock of all kinds; I've even dabbled in punk bands, metal bands, wedding bands and jazz bands.
Basically, I'm keeping my head above water with the live performances, but there aren't enough. In two weeks, I'm meeting with my former CBS coworkers at a TV industry convention. The story keeps going.
I'm happy that my phone is ringing, but dang, I need a job. I've sent out hundreds of resumes, had dozens of interviews for jobs I could do in my sleep, and....silence.
I'm thankful to be alive and in generally good health.
What is luck? I have no idea.
