Your thoughts about Marxism

yesterday hell broke a loose because a 80 yr old Spanish lady was being evicted

In Marx's ideal world, people would still create, build, and advance science (meaning, they would work), but they would do so of their own free will, for pure satisfaction, under conditions of complete freedom, and without a financial whip over their heads.

After all, just because the idea of serving the common good has been abused X times in history doesn't mean it's fundamentally wrong.

Wanting justice for that old lady isn't Marxism. There should be a law that grants the apartment to a tenant if they have consistently paid rent for more than 50 years. Pretty much the tenant has been used to pay for the mortgage. She should enjoy some benefits; reduced rent, rent capping or rent free completely at some point.
I know the law was against her but morality was on her side.

@eMortal ok so you just agreed the market should be at least to some degree controlled, as not to provoke absurdities
Richard Marx is highly underrated
Right there waiting for you was a classic ballad
@Chern0bylplaygr0unds I preferred Harpo, myself.
@bijouxbroussard Don't forget Groucho
@Chern0bylplaygr0unds jokes and prayers,? Nothing else.

I like a lot of the Marxist ideals.
marx was an unemployed moocher who had great ideas with other ppls time and money..

Marx wanted everyone to have what they needed to survive. I think if all essential services were free, people would still choose to work both for the common good, and so they could afford luxury items.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@BohoBabe I can attest to your statement primarily because basic services still don't take care of your personal life. If I could have basic services for free I would so choose to work. I'd also be happier because I'm getting things I want vs spending on what I need.

I think they found similar with UBI from the small experiments, people chose to spend it on things they needed and still worked as it only covered a small portion. But imagine having money to have a nice dinner and not worry about it
BohoBabe · M
@SatanBurger Yeah, in the areas where they tried UBI, the only two groups that stopped working were college students and pregnant women. Basically, people who should be taking time off of work. Everyone else still wants to be able to afford those streaming services we all have now.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@BohoBabe Seriously if I knew that my work money could go for enjoyment I'd do more of it. Which is why I don't understand our society.

because marxism works out so well in the countries that embraced it...

ussr, cold war eastern bloc countries, china, cuba, laos, vietnam, north korea, somalia, mozambique, etc.

And in MY ideal world, it would rain ice cream and we'd have a decent ending to The Pirates of Dark Water. Marx assigned to human activity motives that don't actually exist among ANY living creature, let alone humans. With no reward of status, and the same wages you'd get flipping burgers, how many doctors do you think you'd have? How many garbagemen?

With no corporate or religious authorities to compete with for the loyalty of the citizenry, how long would it take the government to seize absolute power- especially in light of the fact that it's the one form of status remaining to such a regime? The idea of working for the common good isn't fundamentally wrong; the idea of conflating the country with the government is.
Rabscuttle · 41-45
@BohoBabe "Free services" don't exist; they aren't conjured from the ether, but provided by people, who need to be paid- and which in turn establishes a priority of production, destroying the democratization of production, since status, class, and income differentation, which could otherwise have checked it, are all gone.

And I'm VERY curious how you place Das Kapital as "capitalist propaganda"; I suggest you actually READ it before defending it. Here's a translation: https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Das_Kapital_(Moore,_1906)

Karl Mark never dug a ditch, changed a diaper, or worked an eight-hour shift on a factory floor, and it shows.
BohoBabe · M
@Rabscuttle *loud annoyed groan*

Yes, yes, nothing is literally free. When we say something should be free, we mean "free at the point of service." Firefighters are paid through taxation, but they work free at the point of service.

I read Das Kapital in the original German. Where does Marx say everyone should make the same amount of money regardless of their job?
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@BohoBabe I'm very curious as well to hear the answer to your question.
ElyssTTTrucks · 100+, M
Everything is bad as long as the billionaire class controls it.
dziwak · 31-35, F
@ElyssTTTrucks its just interesting they say communsim doesnt work, bc it gets abused, but we have the exact same siutation right now with capitalism but somehow it doesnt irk anybody

I can't see how Marxism, (Stalin, Trotsky, Lenin, Mao) has anything to do with the United States. We have our own political thinkers who are relevent to THIS country. Mark Twain, Eugene V. Debbs, Sinclare Lewis, Dr. Martin Luther King jr., Gore Vidal, Bernie Sanders, and many others.
Not sees don't admit to the truth. USA is all, all not sees. Every one of you. All.

The problem is that people are generally self interested.

Good luck selling that line of garbage.
Since the class war is a hushed topic for Dems, and doesn't exist for Republicans I can't help. You're toast And there's nothing to say about any solutions. Hush.
