What I’m going through lately.

Lately I’ve been feeling really inadequate and down on myself. Memories of my failures, mistakes, and the person I was in the past keep coming back and making me question my worth as a man. I’ve been stuck in a deep slump, and unfortunately those feelings have also been bringing back memories of drugs and alcohol.

The cravings for crack have been especially strong. I’ve actually found myself watching videos online of people smoking crack and wishing I was doing it too. I know exactly where that road leads for me, though. If I ever go back to crack, I’m afraid I won’t stop until it kills me.

I’m realizing that sometimes the hardest battle isn’t fighting the drug itself—it’s fighting the shame, loneliness, regret, and self-hatred that make me want to escape into it. I’ve made mistakes and lost a lot, but those mistakes don’t have to define the rest of my life.

Right now I’m trying to remind myself that I don’t need to fix my entire life tonight. I just need to make it through today without destroying the life I still have. I’m hurting, I’m struggling, and I’m far from where I want to be—but I’m still here, and I’m still fighting.

I've been listening to this book on Audio CD called "The Perfection Trap , Embracing the Power of Good Enough" by Thomas Curran. Todays chapter discussed that many of us have a affliction that has a huge root cause in our society's economy , obsession with perfection, of More and Better.

The author says we often put on a mask with others of competency, but it's really hiding shame or inadequacy. And that if we could really get to the truth of who we are, that any mistakes, or setbacks in life, is not who we are, and that in the fact that because we walk, and Exist , PERIOD, we are enough, and we are good enough. I really liked that🪻 I hope maybe some of it can speak to you as well.

@LifeVoice101 No problem. I love a quote too by Eckhart Tolle. "Whatever you can say "about" you, is not you". Meaning we are not our likes, our faults, our mistakes, our triumph. We are the person who notices all, who is consciousness. 🦋

@LifeVoice101 I own that too .. what an eye opening book. I liked it more than " The Power of Now".
You sound amazing, and you have your priorities right. Don't give in. It will take a while but it gets better every day. One day you can look back and see it only as a distant memory.
Find something to concentrate on that feels good to you.. a pet, hiking, friends (non druggies), painting and art.. just find something that you enjoy doing and concentrate on it.
