I've had my MRIs and I see neurosurgery on Friday

My primary sent me a message telling me I have degenerative disc disease. Worse in my low back where two discs have slipped and grind on a nerve.

That explains why after all the PT and exercise and stretching, it's not gotten much better. I can manage my own pain without meds, but I still constantly hurt.

Not sure what comes next, I will find out on Friday.

I think I went too hard in life. Working in labor since I was 12, skateboarding falls, weight lifting/excessive exercise, so many adventures, caretaking... I have done a lot.

It makes me glad I had my adventures when I did.

I'll see what the docs say, but it's time to slow down I think.

I'm kinda in shock though. Kinda mad I pushed my body for work and have nothing to show for it but a worn out carcass.

So yeah I'll figure this out too.

A true Chinese trained acupuncturist might help with pain.
@Neoerectus excellent idea, I've been wanting to try one for do long

I’m sorry to hear that. I agree with the comment about trying some alternative treatments.
Wish you the best
@SilverF0x thank you!

Have you tried Aspercreme - I use it on my knees on bad days. It doesn't smell like Bengay and it's great since I avoid NSAIDs And 💯 - stretching is key...
@fun4us2b I was using the Lidocaine patches but the pharmacies even hospitals ran out. Can I use it on my entire back? I stretch twice a day but some days I am super flexy but the next day I'm stiff and sore. It's not consistent so it's frustrating to never have progress.

@EldritchFox I think it is basically Lidocaine...

Well, that sucks, but the upside is there are effective treatments which you seem to be on top of. The other upside is that you have the right attitude - the "I can beat/handle this" attitude makes a world of difference in how one manages any injury/illness.

I hate this for you - I've been dealing with lower back issue for many years and at times, it ain't fun.
@Ontheroad it is not fun at all, but yes we just gotta handle it as best we can. I definitely don't plan on stopping, it's just a lot slower these days. Which in a way was good for me mentally too. Hey we gotta age gracefully if we want to keep the fun going 😂

I have the same. Repetitive injury and some genetics involved. I wish you luck. Avoid fusion if possible.
@Livingwell thank you 🖤 it's not fun, but we gotta keep going. I'm definitely going to avoid any treatments besides holistic at all costs

@Harmonium1923 it's not. It's really slowed me down a lot. I'm sorry you feel it too.

@EldritchFox Never thought I’d be so attached to a heating pad. Started taking it with me on plane flights lately.
@Harmonium1923 my heated blanket is life sometimes lol

Sorry to here that and I hope it goes well for you. Especially with a slipped disc. As long as it's not ruptured it will be OK. I have the same thing in my neck. The C7 to be exact. I've been living with it for 20 years now without surgery. All I use is Mineral Ice and sometimes Tylenol. I understand yours is in your lower back which is worse than in the neck but Hang in there. There will be good news. 👍
@maskedbandit thank you..

Well them knowing what it is might mean treating it will be more productive, with back pain it's hit or miss with doctors
@FreeSpirit1 I'm hoping I can at least get some questions answered and more aquatherapy. I never expect much out of docs except to try to solve my issues myself lol
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
I've worn out my body as well. It's hard to accept that you just can't do things with the same crazy vigour I used to lol
@JimboSaturn yup. If I tried to get on a skateboard right now it would not end well lol

I’m sorry to hear that.. but it sounds like you tried to live life to the fullest and had a good time doing so. Time to rest up a bit and give yourself time to recover, wishing you the best
@DHggmu yeah it was fun while it lasted lol thank you, just time for a new phase of life
