My son took this picture of me tonight, and I don't think he realized what he was actually capturing.
To most people, it's just me filling up a little plastic pool for my dogs.
But standing there tonight, I was overwhelmed with gratitude.
In 2007, I deployed to Iraq. I remember the desert, the heat, and seeing people living without things we take for granted every single day, things as simple as clean, running water. I remember seeing people living without the freedoms and security that so many of us have never had to imagine life without.
And tonight, almost 20 years later, I'm standing in my own backyard with so much water that I can fill an entire pool, for my dogs.
Man, how blessed am I
Sometimes God's greatest blessings aren't the things we're still praying for. They're the things we've gotten so used to having that we forgot they were blessings at all.
Running water.
A safe home.
My children.
Freedom.
Another day of life.
Lord, forgive me for the times I've looked at my life and thought I needed more.
Because tonight, standing in my backyard with nothing more than a water hose in my hand, I was reminded just how much You have already given me.
Man, I am blessed.

Well said. You are correct, we often don't see what's right in front of us. The blessings so many of us have that we've simply forgotten or taken for granted. Thank you for this reminder.
