Gonna quit my job today and look for something that doesn't destroy my body.

I'm just not gonna outperform 19 year olds.

I can't imagine carrying a 70lb box up a wobbly 16ft ladder right now. It's probably why my back hurts so bad anyway. I'm not even giving two weeks because if I show up there they'll work me into oblivion. After I had an operation last year I had to keep reminding them I can't do the crazy weight lifting they want. They couldn't remember 🙄

So I'm done. I'll write a letter. My reasons are valid. They won't even care. They struggle to keep people because they suck, I just put up with a LOT.

I gotta find something more appropriate. I hate the thought of a sedentary job but I think it'd be best to stop relying on work for a workout and do proper workouts on my own. It'll be safer.

Meanwhile my back hurts like hell but I finally found the right concoction for sleep. Docs aren't helpful and it's so backed up here I can't have an MRI for another two months. I'm thinking of buying a back brace and continuing my exercise in pain because I don't want to turn into a part of the couch.

Anybody have an advice for back/sciatic issues?

I work at a call center, and though it's not physically demanding at all, the mental/emotional stress is making me miserable. I'm actually considering going back to assembly work or even something like stocking shelves, just so I don't have to deal with talking to people any more at work. My social battery stays drained. I can't do it anymore.

@LeGrotesque I applied for disability years ago due to fibromyalgia and they denied it. I'm thinking about applying again since it's gotten so much worse.

I really wish they could acknowledge fibromyalgia and say, here's a little compensation AND here's a light job that won't destroy you so you can remain a part of the world and survive.

I want to work. I don't hate working at all. It just fkn hurts. If I could work a little less without being penalized financially I'd be happy to do so. But it's like, oh you're in pain we will destroy you... 😞

@EldritchFox exact same for me. Fibromyalgia, endometriosis, a blood disorder, and bipolar disorder. I filed and fought for it for 7 years and got denied every time. Gave up and have been struggling to hold on to jobs ever since. This country is not designed for sick people. They just want us to die or disappear.
EldritchFox · 41-45, F
@LeGrotesque they absolutely want us to die. Seriously look at human history and how the working people are treated. There's been improvement but the idea is still that we're disposable. And with these mega rich white men in charge right now they're on the attack.
Oh girl ..I've been dealing with chronic sciatic pain for years ...
I see a chiropractor and it has helped tremendously also doing some stretches help some what ..keep moving...because once you stop it will get worse ...there are excersizes yiu can do to help with pain too ...I'm sorry you're in pain..it can be debilitating at times but a good chiropractor who knows what they're doing can be a game changer ...I hope you can get some relief
EldritchFox · 41-45, F
@cherny Did you need a diagnosis before you saw the chiropractor? I'm supposed to see neurosurgery because it could be a herniated disc. I do all the stretches twice a day, stay active and use heat. It just takes so long to see a doc here and I've had this pain since I had my son something hasn't been right. I got sciatic pain when I was super fit and athletic and over the years but now it's not going away.

I don't know what to do. My docs are no help. They are short and dismissive I think because they're so busy they don't take the time to ask questions and figure stuff out. Especially with my insurance..she just taps away on her computer...

I hate this rn lol
@EldritchFox your initial visit to a chiropractor they will evaluate you and should take x rays . If your insurance covers it I think it's a good idea to go . I'm going to avoid getting surgery which I was told by a doctor I should get
.pffft eff that...
EldritchFox · 41-45, F
@cherny yeah I don't want surgery. I've heard horror stories. But something has gotta give because I have a life to live.

In the last few years I have learned a few unpleasant truths.
One being that most employers consider their employees disposable assets that they work to oblivion then replace them with the next victim.
Two is the fact it seems most doctors don’t take women’s pain complaints seriously. I think deep down they figure if you can survive childbirth you can handle anything.
Finally, after dealing with my wife’s sciatica pain besides stretching and pain medication I used to massage her butt cheek over the ischial tuberosity. Circular motion with an open palm.

@SageWanderer I've always known I was disposable and docs don't take me seriously. They never listen to complaints of pain so I just go to the ER if I'm worried. My primary used to be awesome but it's just too crowded here, she's been a beotch to me lately. Nobody is gonna rub my butt but that sounds like it would feel so good!

Leave that job, and go for the next one. Keep on searching, until you will be feeling good.
And I am with you in getting that back brace that will allow you to continue moving on your own.
There are a lot of videos on YouTube you can find on sciatica pain exercises.

From my experience, a massage with a tennis ball can help you. Get a tennis ball and sit on it on the ground, then move your lower body around the ball, it will be painful but it can also be enjoyably painful, feeling some kind of relief. You can try move the tennis ball around either with your hand or body. It sounds abstract but once you are there, you will know what to do.
Walking walking stretching and abdominal exercise. Mines been good past couple weeks. Finally relief again 🙌🕺
Ooh and do you sleep with a pillow between knees? I found that helpful .
EldritchFox · 41-45, F
@Iknowyourouttheresomewhere I am always on my feet, stretch twice a day, apply heat and I either sleep with two pillows under my legs to align my back or one in-between when I'm on my side. Thinking about getting a back brace to just keep going.
if your back pain comes from doing your job then what people do around here is apply for worker's compensation through worksafe (your osha) ....try doing that before just quitting....you might get compensated while staying at home with your son. then work under the table somewhere and do lighter work. i wish you luck fox
EldritchFox · 41-45, F
@beermeplease unfortunately I will need a diagnosis for worker's comp and since it'll be two months before an MRI I just can't wait that long to figure it all out. I need proof and docs here don't even want to give me advice on my back without a diagnosis.

That sounds great but this is America. They break us and throw us in the trash.
@EldritchFox ironically our medical system sucks but when it comes to workers comp claims those issues are handled swiftly....but if i were to develop cataracts or whatever other ailment getting in to see a specialist takes months.

I am sure your doctor had instructions given to you regarding your return to work. I really do not believe an employrr can diregard medical restrictions. That might be something for you to look into. I hope this helps, and I hope you get to feeling better soon.
EldritchFox · 41-45, F
@factanonverba my doctor will not respond to giving me a note for work. I have called and asked and they literally ignore it. It's driving me insane.
