We survived 'Don't speak until you're spoken to' relatives. And they all thought nothing of giving you a slap if they considered it deserved.
Weird neighbours some with strange habits. That made you feel uneasy.
Predatory 'come for a ride in my car' strangers while you were out walking.
Teachers. Some of whom thought nothing of beating you with anything from a clout round the ear to slippers and even the cane.
And a whole bunch more.
And yet we're still here. Fighting for other people's rights as well as our own.
Still making a noise against a backdrop of 'boomers' still trying to find ways to divide and kill us all for ridiculous decisions they continually make.

You know. Those two things, mom would have never served. It was Cotta Salami or ham and milk for lunch.
But when things happened it was usually worse than bruises.
It's a miracle that I survived multiple times over.
Other than that, I really didn't look much different than that boy in the image. Perhaps not so smiley though.
