The reason why this song reminds me of my hometown. Do you find it strange tho?
So this song is A Line in the Sand by Linkin Park from their 2014 album The Hunting Party so I guess a lot of you might know this song given how popular LP has always been. So I will share why this one reminds me of my hometown Siliguri in West Bengal in India. Yeah I was born in Siliguri but living in the city Bangalore in Southern India since 2008 and only visit Siliguri annually once. Also it's mainly because of this song's chorus where Chester sings it more in his usual Meteora-style raspy and loud vocals. I remember hearing this in early 2016 when I was finishing my 10th grade and I was 15. So originally this song made me feel some dread too as I was being bullied regularly in school especially by this guy Arjun so yeah most Linkin Park songs used to remind me of the bullying. But this one reminded me since then about my hometown as well.
That's because the way Chester sounds in the chorus somehow reminds me of the taste of the mutton i eat in Siliguri. Yeah the mutton is different there especially the one bought from the neighboring meat shop in Hakimpara area of Siliguri where my grandparents home is and that's because they use a different breed of goat "Kochi Patha" which are mostly native to the North Bengal region so they tasted distinct compared to the mutton we have here in Bangalore. Idk why exactly the Chester's singing reminds me of the taste of that mutton but it really does. Maybe because just like how Chester's voice blends in with the loud and fast instruments, the mutton also melts so fast while eating, chewing and swallowing it. Another thing which the song reminds me of is the cycle rickshaws of Siliguri too. In my pre-2016 annual visits to Siliguri, we used to mostly travel in the cycle rickshaws there to go to the market or travel around the city but since 2015 the cycle rickshaws slowly got replaced by the electric toto rickshaws so yeah cycle rickshaws are much rarer now.
So surprisingly the rhythm of the chorus reminds me of the cycle rickshaw rides for some reason and i even imagine having that rickshaw ride at a more early morning hour there when it's quieter on the roads still. So yeah I have no idea why this song does it but yeah it happens. As I have been associating this song to my hometown Siliguri since I was 15, even now at 25 I still end up associating this song with the Kochi Patha mutton and the cycle rickshaws of Siliguri.
