How did I ever make it by myself?
I used to be really shallow. All I needed was work, liquor, video games and to chase women. I didn't understand personal connection. I would talk to people for a bit and then just forget they existed. Dropped them like a toy doll.
But around when I turned 28 or 29, it really hit me, how short life is. I've reconnected with old friends and made stronger bonds, both old and new. I deeply love some of the people in my life — something I probably would have been shy to express back when I was more superficial.
Now, I can't imagine being alone like I was before. I know that life on this Earth is temporary and I want as much time with my loved ones as I can possibly get.
In some ways, I experience more pain now than I did before. But I'm glad I made this change because I see more value in human beings.
