So a very interesting social moment happened today. Do you find it interesting too?

So in Trinity area of our city Bangalore in India which is a very cosmopolitan area, i initiated conversation with this African woman. At first when I waved at her, she smiled and joined her hand to greet me. But when I said "I am just saying Hi to new people", she suddenly started speaking in some language which I couldn't understand. I tried saying in even simpler english that I am just trying to talk to new people but she kept speaking in that language. As a 25 year old guy who grew up in India as a Bengali Indian in Bangalore and hasn't traveled across the world, obviously i didn't know what language she was speaking and she was continuously talking something to me.

So I politely said her "Sorry actually I am unable to understand your language. Can you please speak in English?" But then she kept repeating the word "Swahili". That's when I understood she is speaking in Swahili language which is spoken in some African countries. I heard of the word "Swahili" from the internet but don't know the language. So I asked her "Ohh it's Swahili?" And she nodded yes. Anyways I disengaged saying "Okay have a great day" as it was harder to talk with this language barrier and she too smiled and greeted me for goodbye. It was very interesting to meet someone speaking a completely different languages with me. Shows how diverse the world is and it fascinates. If she would have spoken in English, I would have loved to know about her country, region, food and everything honestly.
