Today I discovered Pinkerton is...real?! I thought it was fictional

Founded by Allan Pinkerton, a Scottish immigrant. He was an abolitionist who discovered a plot to assassinate Lincoln during the civil war. He was hired by the railroad companies to run President Lincoln security.

He clearly fucked this one up.

The company also fucked up on the intelligence it delivered to the Union army about the Confederate troop movements and strength, contributing to initial Union losses.

The company became an enforcer for the railroads and did some shit as the nation expanded west.

Oh, they are very real. 🕵‍♂

Dashiell Hammett was a Pinkerton detective.

Yeah they are around. I thought they where folded into other companies.
