A hen among swans

I wrote a story

Imagine the earth was reaching it’s end, but luckily scientists found a habitable planet not too far away, it’s just perfect for humans, 5 times bigger than earth, but it’s already habitable by other living beings. Then the day finally comes, and the best of humankind is hand selected and sent to a far distant planet on a huge, huge spaceship. On arrival we contact the creature that already lives there. Just looking around, we are amused just how advance their society seems, 100 percent free health care, work 2 times a week cause they priorities living life instead of working, their education system is far, far better than ours, an economy so advanced we never even imagine was possible, new language, expressions and cultures we must learn. Lucky we are accepted, and given the chance to become part of their society, it’s exciting, it’s new, and that’s all you see at first. But as time goes on, you notice what you left behind, all you have is your mom and sister, you lost the rest of your family just from moving to a new planet, no grandparents, no cousins, no aunts or uncles, just the 3 of you. But you are lucky, some don’t even have that. So, you start living, and you see other humans fail to adapt, barely able to read, write or even speak the alien language, therefor there are left doing jobs the aliens don’t want, cleaning their toilets, building their house by hand, serving them food, just to have them complain about humans touch what they eat, and getting fired for it. But you are not like them, you are different, you are better, you don’t want the aliens to associate any of that, you want them to see you as equal, or even be better, so you learn and adapt, you fight through all the critics. Even your own family, your sister and mother, remind you just how little you seem to have adapted compared to them, they critic other humans in front of you, talking about them “Why can’t they just do better??”. A lot of aliens hate humans, but can you blame them? We are here to steal their resources and take advantage of their good life. Other alien kids talk about how, despite being humans, your mother and sister are beautiful, not like you.. being made fun of by aliens in their language, meanwhile you just thought they told a joke, so you laugh and smile too.

So many heart breaks you can’t even remember, because you are still just a human, so no alien will ever be interested in you, cause to them you will always be ugly, but you can’t blame or judge them for it, it’s biology, but where does that leave you? But, your beautiful mom and sister seem to find love with aliens easy, so you can’t blame them either. No matter ho much you give up of yourself to adapt, you are still human, there is no changing that. Aliens stare at you whenever you go out, whispers while they look at you, and you have no other choice but accept it, you can’t complain about it cause there is no harm in staring, and for all you know, they aren’t talking about you, though they whisper and laugh while looking at you. And you have no choice but to accept love from aliens that only see you as some sexual toy of their sick and twisted fantasy, and you are supposed to be grateful they even find you anyhow attractive, cause even if you were to find other humans, nothing assure you they will be the same age as you, or that you sexuality might align, or that they aren’t already in a relationship, that they live close, and that they are interested, so find other humans doesn’t instantly mean love, remember, 95% of the society are aliens, so you rarely see other humans, and when you do, they are usually begging for money on the streets, looking worst than they did on earth. And the worst part is, even if you could go back “home”, you have gave so much of yourself to adapt, it won’t feel like “home” anymore. You are not one of the aliens, you are not human anymore, at least other humans don’t see you as “one of them” anymore… you live your life hating yourself, unable to escape from that feeling, you feel deformed, cause you don’t look anything like the creatures you are constantly surrounded by, but you don’t even recognize that’s the reason you feel that way. And you question yourself “Why am I being rejected from the only thing I know? Why am I not good enough?”

And that’s my life, I am a Nigerian who moved to Spain when he was 11, I am gay and black, rejected from my black family for being gay, rejected from the society I grew up in for being black. I am the color black in a rainbow.

I am so sad to read this, I can't imagine how you must feel. I am thinking that maybe moving back to Nigeria would be better than this? What if it took you some time to adapt, but eventually you could? At least the race issue would be no more, idk what it's like to be gay there. Maybe you could try, and move back to Spain if it doesn't work out? You shouldn't have to live for so long, never feeling accepted. None of this is your problem, it is theirs. You are not deformed, you are not ugly, and eating with your hands is actually healthy because touching the food tells the brain to start digesting. Maybe getting back in touch with your roots could do something good for you, idk. You should never change yourself completely to fit in with others, your family shouldn't either. I live in a different country than I grew up in myself, but I still make food from my home country, and even do traditions like they're done in my home country. Sometimes I celebrate holidays both ways. I still listen to music in my own language too. It's important to stay true yourself and the nostalgia, don't let an important part of who you are vanish. You are not Nigerian or Spanish, you are both.
