Have you ever felt empty and out of passion in your late 20s?

Currently, I am feeling a bit stuck.
I got a good work, try to exercise more, try communicating more with friends, and plan some exams/certification that will help me with my career — but I have this sinking feeling that I can’t rid off and makes me just want to spiral out of control.

I got no problem making my friends a bit happy when they feel this way. But can’t seem to make myself better.

Growing up, I never had a firm education on mental health — I’m contemplating into going to therapy or something (like should I go to psychologist and have them examine me? Or is it a psychiatrist I should be consulting?… really unsure).

I want to help myself, to not feel empty, to feel passionate about something, be motivated.. however, these past few days, I’ve been feeling so dysfunctional… Like I need someone to just drill some sense into me… or tell me what to do.

I don’t wanna end up like my uncle who just spiraled out of control and off himself. Or my father who went all bipolar on us — hurt us emotionally.

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you..

We were in pandemic in my late 20s. Weird times. But also, I felt strong at the beginning of 2022 when I was 29, I made the decision to sign up for a driving course and passed the test at the first attempt. I was also bitten by a dog and had to have anti rabies shots but surprisingly, I took it rather as an interesting experience than some kind of tragedy.

I had a crisis at 31 though.

@CrazyMusicLover does that strong feeling just come naturally? I was feeling that way by start of February - but I’m just stuck now. How do you make yourself to think you are strong???

@stayfickle It was super random, I can't explain it myself. I normally have social anxiety but at that time I almost felt the need to go out and interact with people. I kind of relapsed after the driving course and the test and felt super exhausted. I pretty much wasted the rest of the year but it was also because I wanted to become self-employed but it was disadvantageous at the time because it was announced that there would be new IDs available in 2023 and with that ID I would be able to set everything around the self-employment online and for free. So I decided to wait.

I also remember that at the beginning of autumn in 2022 I felt emptiness and dispassion. It was probably the first time when I felt a certain emotional coldness and asexuality too. And then in November 2022 - January 2023 I was almost ecstatic at times. I was just so hyped-up.

@CrazyMusicLover Woah - I guess I’ve been feeling that emotional coldness too.
I hope I get hyped up one of these days or months, too.

That’s fine and thank you for describing the experience - it may not resolve my problem but it’s a bit helpful.

Just take one day at a time and feel gratitude for what you have. Don’t overthink life, let it ebb and flow.

@therighttothink50 thank you. To be frank - I am trying to… not sure why the heck it feels like this.
Talk to someone, preferably a professional therapist. It may help, it’s worth a try.
@stayfickle good. The sooner the better. And it doesn’t have to be a long term commitment. Just try it and see. Also it has to be the right fit for both of you, so you may want to try different therapists

@Ghostinthemachine got it. Thank you for the advice - there’s a psychologist that offer mental health examination and therapy near me. I’ll grab that.
@stayfickle good, and good luck

You get used to it after a few years!

@GermanAf hope so. But it’s been like this for years.

@stayfickle one thing about life, it goes in cycles. Always seek peace of mind, it’s priceless.

@therighttothink50 thank you for the wisdom. I guess one thing I can do is to listen to motivational songs. I’ve listened to the Looking for space (reminds me of the band Bread) and it’s a lil bit uplifting.
I’m now adding this on my YouTube song queue along with some Keane songs.
