2025 reflections

So this is Christmas
And what have you done?
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you had fun
The near and the dear ones
The old and the young

From one of my favourite songs.

So what have I done?

Not a lot lol.

Much of this year has been about others in the family. My two granddaughters growing from tiny babies into energetic toddlers. My kids trying to cope with parenthood and all that throws at you. Hospital trips, worry, separation anxiety, work / family balance etc.

My daughter at one point when her daughter was in and out of hospital quoted a saying of mine on line "Man plans; God laughs". It's been a year of quiet support and advice.

I'm still in the jam band I joined in 2024 much to my surprise, I'd have thought they'd have ousted me by now 😂.

I've enjoyed learning material I'd probably never have learnt before and playing in a band is always better than playing with yourself (stop being smutty at the back).

This year's big achievement? Another year sober. Any day sober is a big thing for me I must never stop being grateful for that.

Best wishes to everyone for 2026.

That sounds like a lot accomplished

What kind of music?
OldBrit · 61-69, M
@samueltyler2 70s classic rock mostly, some punk and grunge

@OldBrit what instument do you play?
OldBrit · 61-69, M
@samueltyler2 guitar, mandolin but don't play mandolin in this band
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@OldBrit acoustic or electric?
OldBrit · 61-69, M
@samueltyler2 both but the band is a rock band so only electric in that mostly standard tuning but a few I use Drop D tuning for. Kashmir has been suggested which needs DADGAD which is ok on the Drop D one

@OldBrit how many guitars play? My grandson studies in Berklee in Boston. His main instrument is electric bass. I play trombone in 3 local bands.
OldBrit · 61-69, M
@samueltyler2 I don't really want to add up all the guitars (I'm probably over the wife's limit again 😂) and my son needs space at his house (toddler daughter) so the two on loan to him are coming back.

@OldBrit wow, my grandson won a contest for designing and making one while in high school.
