Several reasons.

Because they’re too stuck in the depths to be pulled out of it but still have to function, which just adds to the ugh being projected.

Being around joyful people weighs heavy on them and adds to the dread they’re already feeling so their only response is further negativity.

Their apathy is so deep that they literally don’t care about the feelings of anyone around them because they no longer care about themselves.

They believe structure/order/coloring in the lines is safe and even gives them a sense of control.

Because they have to be the center of attention and true fun cannot be had unless they’re the one orchestrating it.

That depends on your definition of fun. Some people call fun something that harms or crosses the boundaries of others and has the nerve to call you a killjoy. It's all about the perspective.

I don't know. It's just terrible and so hard to be with them.

Some people dont enjoy others having a good time think they are jealous!

It usually seems to me they’re hurting in deep places.

For so many reasons. I'm sick of them. They're vampires and they want others to join in their misery too. It's exhausting. Very.

Real simple answer; Because they can and no one has ever stopped them!
Does the year 2025 offers a consistent reminder and just a friendly cautionary tale of these people are capable of.
