Bedtime is the time for sorrow?

During the day, or even when I'm up at night, my mind can be involved with things and occupied. But come time to lie in bed and try and sleep and the loneliness hits, the realization time is running down, that my wife will continue to decline mentally, that sitting by myself with no one to talk to will be the norm not too far in the future.

I sympathise with you. I was in your situation 10 years ago, but with the highs and lows of cancer treatments which ultimately only prolonged the inevitable. You will find people to talk to, I did, even if it's a stranger in the grocery store, but I do spend a lot of time on my own. I have a new mission in life now, my step ķids live near me, one is disabled and requires the occasional assistance with transport and stuff. Small things like helping out give me a purpose. My best wishes for the future.

I understand it very well. Hard reality for us elder folks living alone.
