What was the biggest decision you had to make in your life ?

Whether I could really afford to retire early. Not having a reliable paycheck coming in, not old enough to draw Social Security or begin drawing on my IRA yet. But my wife was supportive (said later it had saved my life; that the stress of the job would have killed me before normal retirement) and she still intended to work.

@peterlee Absolutely. Turns out my employer discovered they needed me more than I needed them, so kept hiring me as a consultant on projects. I got to pick and choose the projects, earned just about the same while working about a third the hours, already had the benefits as a retiree. So all I really gave up was the security of a regular paycheck, no safety net.
