@rinkydinkydoink Had about the same experience when I was 8-ish, I too wonder if it would have been easier to just let go, lol.

This not so minor point, though - my dad tried a little too hard and too often to get the boat motor to kick over. He kept pulling the cord again and again. As he did, the boat began rocking side to side in larger and larger swoops until we all went ass over tea kettle into the drink. He couldn't swim but he felt for me under the water until he found me, grabbing me by my side an heaving me up onto the upside-down boat.
If I drowned he never would've forgiven himself.

@rinkydinkydoink i had the same thought, my parents were on the beach, the only reason i didnt die is because i had the thought of how desperately theyd look for their child and never find it.
