I don't feel any job that may be shady, is worth losing one's reputation over. You told him right.

I love your husband's heart. He listens and I know that if he could, he would love to give you that great vacation together, but right now it's just rough on him. He knows what you want and it sounds like he's really feeling guilty. Knowing how he's struggling, I think maybe your timing was not too good in mentioning the vacation. Maybe you won't get to go on that vacation this year, but maybe the next. I can see he's trying so hard. It sounds like he could use some encouragement and coming from you, would really boosts his spirits. I can tell he loves you very much.

I take it he does not communicate much... his wants, needs and such?
If communication starts to go from showing restraint and not wanting to cause conflict. That is the last thing you'll want. Both of you need to sit down, and actually be open to a discussion. Cause, next will be resentment. Which is a slippery slope that is hard to get back up from. At least that's the hard lesson I learned from my own divorce.

Are you gainfully employed?

It’s hard to ask a man for something he can’t afford. If you don’t like his job choice, then the vacation goes away with it.

As for the reputation of the employer, he’s in charge of how he acts. The company can’t dictate his actions.

Money issues are the primary cause of marriages failing, unfortunately, which ironically generally leads to even more money issues for both parties.
