For a kid like me it was
IUsedToBeHere · 26-30, MNew
@caPnAhab Same, sort of.. there are good things about now but it seemed like a better time which is why I'm asking because I don't if I just have a rosy view of that time because I was a kid.
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
@IUsedToBeHere We must've been blissfully ignorant to anything real happening. I can barely recall 9/11 for example
and sure as heck had no idea what impact that would leave on the world, not until a few years after anyway.
IUsedToBeHere · 26-30, MNew
@caPnAhab Stuff like that is tragic but as far as affecting me personally that never has. I think things weren't so political back then for average people, I never remember people talking to each other about politics and world events that much but now it is everywhere.

AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
Yes it was. My oldest daughter was born in '02 and the youngest in '05 it was the best time of my life. My babies are my everything. Plus they are miracles.
Younameit · F
The world is getting worse and better at the same time. But now I think we’re stuck and not progressing much. In the early 2000s technology was far behind, we’ve made advancements in the health and technology field, which is good, as it saves lives. Human relationships are getting worse though and I think we’re leaning towards a more asocial world. The sense of community is getting lost, and people are too self-centered and obsessed with themselves to care.
IUsedToBeHere · 26-30, MNew
@Younameit I feel that too, interactions in real life often seem meaningless. Would you sacrifice technology of today for the connection of yesterday?
YoMomma ·
Maybe the 2000’s were to you what the 90’s were to me aka a happy time of being a kid.. often in my traumatic 20-30’s i wished i could go back to then when i was happy but since i’m happy now i no longer wish any such things .. i think i just misses the blissful happiness of the time 🙂
In some ways .. my sons were young, really enjoyed those early years with them. There were some happier times w my W, but they didn't last, as usual.
IUsedToBeHere · 26-30, MNew
@BrandNewMan What changed in terms of quality of life?
@IUsedToBeHere Marriage issues when she kept shutting down /checking out on it
Honestly, yea...at least it felt better. Maybe it’s the nostalgia talking, but life seemed simpler. No constant notifications, hanging out meant actually being present, music hit different, and friendships felt more real. Being a teen in the early 2000s was a whole vibe.
Every year since '01 has just gotten worse and worse. I'm personally much happier and more content now than back then.. but I'm talking about society.
BlobbyMcBlobface · 100+, M
Yes. I was young, music was great, football was better, I had a great social life, summers seemed longer...
IUsedToBeHere · 26-30, MNew
@BlobbyMcBlobface Would you put it down to age? Or would you say things have fundamentally changed for the worse
BlobbyMcBlobface · 100+, M
@IUsedToBeHere Perhaps a bit of both but music and football have definitely become boring over the years.
lilylovesgaming1986 · 36-40, F
Early 2000 was the best. Specially after my mom kicked me out of the house. I think my mental health was a lot better
lilylovesgaming1986 · 36-40, F
@IUsedToBeHere after she kicked me out I went to stay with a friend and her boyfriend. I was with them for 2 or 3 months. I needed a place to live and my boss over heard the conversation. He let me live in his storage shed he turned into a house. His wife she really helped me a lot back then. How to pay bills and how to drive a car.
IUsedToBeHere · 26-30, MNew
@lilylovesgaming1986 Sounds awesome, I guess when you're at rock bottom sometimes the only way really is up.
lilylovesgaming1986 · 36-40, F
@IUsedToBeHere she never let me go hungry. My clothes was all was cleaned
YoMomma ·
Not for me but maybe in some ways for some other people like society wasn't as viciously insanely hostile as it is now 😳
IUsedToBeHere · 26-30, MNew
@YoMomma Perhaps.. I was only a child in the early 2000s so my experience of it is limited, that's why I ask
YoMomma ·
@IUsedToBeHere i was 16 i think when Y2K came
IUsedToBeHere · 26-30, MNew
@YoMomma Where do you think the hostility comes from?
RosaMarie · 46-50, F
I didn't have to worry about masked armed agents of the government demanding my papers like it's 1930s Germany. Actually, the SS didn't even wear masks.
IUsedToBeHere · 26-30, MNew
@RosaMarie Lol, ice. Don't have that over here but the police will come to your door if you say anything on Facebook apparently, that's overblown though I think. Can't speak for America.
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
Yes. Because i was 25 years younger with less problems and responsibilities.
IUsedToBeHere · 26-30, MNew
@GuyWithOpinions That's what I feel like gives me rose tinted glasses, was reaching out to people who were adults at the time.. there are things that I can remember that when I observe were just inherently better though
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
No, lol. I was a kid and was a slave to parents' decisions and school. I wouldn't go back.
Jonjdw · 51-55, M
It probably was for me. But what do I know.
IUsedToBeHere · 26-30, MNew
@Jonjdw What did you find better about it?
Jonjdw · 51-55, M
@IUsedToBeHere I was younger I was raising my children now I’m older raising my grandchildren. It’s not as enjoyable now.
IUsedToBeHere · 26-30, MNew
@Jonjdw Life is ironic
theweekdy · 22-25, M
Yea cuz I was a baby 😂

@jshm2 How was socializing back then?
val70 · 51-55
Yes, less expensive, less political extreme, more hope
IUsedToBeHere · 26-30, MNew
@val70 Was it easier to talk to people? Was the World less scary?
val70 · 51-55
@IUsedToBeHere Oh yes, I remember the time before 911 very well. Criminal acts done by terrorists were still done by criminals and not fanatics. The Northern Ireland Good Friday Agreement wouldn't have happened afterwards. Just look at the deeds and reputation of one Tony Blair. Before he was a peace maker and afterwards a war criminal. Not entirely his doing but the change of time too
Selah ·
Don't get me started
IUsedToBeHere · 26-30, MNew
@Selah If you mean you'll give an essay on it, go ahead. I'm legitimately interested in how people feel about those years
BillyMack · 46-50, M
Probably the same. Just different kinds of pressure
BillyMack · 46-50, M
@IUsedToBeHere less pay, raising younger kids, stuff like that.
IUsedToBeHere · 26-30, MNew
@BillyMack And what are the pressures now? What was the plus side of them, and now
BillyMack · 46-50, M
@IUsedToBeHere I’m good man. Thanks.
DarthInvader · 36-40, M
Hmm... I hated my youth.
IUsedToBeHere · 26-30, MNew
@DarthInvader I hated mine onward from 2008/2009.. although things weren't at their worst in a general societal sense until a little further on
I get that 2000 was now 25 years ago, but it really doesn’t feel that different to me, well, with maybe the exception of the fascists now in the White House.
IUsedToBeHere · 26-30, MNew
But so much has changed lol
