Add nothing of your own from within, and that’s the end of it.

Therefore any continuation in your life comes solely from you.

This means you are responsible for anything bad in your life… but also anything good.

The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.

The Walmarts of the world, governments, even lawyers of the world love this argument. Place all responsibility upon the individual even though collectively we are messing things up. There is somewhere between that holds responsibility in balance, I mean if I buy mouldy bread from the bakery it's on me to notice but it's also on them to not sell.

It's called collective responsibility.

@awildsheepschase If you are first responsible for yourself, you can then properly be responsible for others. The entities you mentioned have no idea how to be responsible for themselves which is why they often fail to take care of others as well. Collective responsibility comes only after the individual is cared for. Not before.
@Reject Not sure if I agree, I actually find it easier to be responsible when I know my actions matter to them. With myself, I can let things slide because it's only affecting me. You're taking a dark view. I guess you don't share the view it takes a village to raise a child?

@awildsheepschase For me it’s not about my actions mattering to someone else. If that was the case there would be too much room for darker behaviors like manipulation. When you do something just because you want something in return.

I certainly agree that it takes a village to raise a child, but we are not children. We’re adults who are supposed to do the raising ourselves which means if we’re just as dependent as our children, we’re no better than them and become part of the problem.
@Reject I think you are misunderstanding the influence community makes. We can be adults, but I have met adults who have made influence upon my life who give me meaning and teachings. In my eyes, you have compartmentalized things within philosophy of self so they make sense to you, when I promise you we are all still just people in the world and in a community.

@awildsheepschase Sure. I’m not sure what I misunderstood here, but all of that makes sense to me.
