Is it silly to practice Shinto (the way of the kami) outside of Japan?

I am learning about it, because it strikes me as a type of nature religion which resonates with me. In theory, nature spirits would exist anywhere in the world, right? Anyone can make a home alter?

@Infamous607 I don't know a whole lot yet, but they can be the spirit of a mountain, or spirit of the river; they are not really seperate entities, but more like the actual essence of that river for instance.
