Being married or a parent doesnt make you special or any more valid as a person. Nor does it make you any more of a moral authority or more worldy. It just means you didnt wear a condom

@MethDozer It means you have more experience than people who aren’t. It changes you - you prioritise someone else above yourself on another level.

@AdmiralPruneNo it really doesn't. It jjst means you have a different experience. There's lots of experiences in the world besides popping out a baby. Someone with no children can have more experiences than someone who does and often do.
As far as experience, being a married parent means younonly have .ore expeirence being married and being a parent.

@MethDozer apparently we only have worth if we reproduce. No more socially productive labour or goals like expanding human knowledge.

@AdmiralPrune International statistics from WHO and UNICEF
High rates of violence: The World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF reported in 2024 that 6 in 10 children under age 5—about 400 million worldwide—regularly suffer from physical punishment and/or psychological violence by parents and caregivers.
Child deaths: An estimated 40,150 child homicides occur annually for children under 18, with some believed to be the result of maltreatment. The true number is likely an underestimate.
Hidden issue: Child maltreatment is often hidden, with only a small fraction of victims receiving support from health professionals.
Cycle of abuse: A child who is abused is more likely to abuse others as an adult, perpetuating a cycle of violence.

@MethDozer Yeah I’m not buying that. I worked during the pandemic in a legal capacity that dealt with family law and in particular child protection services and there was 7-9 cases a year in a catchment area of 6.4 million people.
Maybe I live in an area where we have better family values.

@AdmiralPrune I'd rather that people who don't want children not have them than having children grow up with resentment. Not all people should have kids either.
Kids don't need deadbeat dads, neglect or abuse. Reproducing literally means you ejactulated in a vagina successfully.
Being a dad or mum is not the same as just banging someone.

@basilfawlty89 Don’t have a dim view of raising kids just because you are unable.

@AdmiralPrune who said I'm unable or don't want children? That's an assumption.
The point is you get many excellent parents. You also get abusive parents.
Just having a child doesn't mean you're a good parent.
Also, not that it's your business, but I don't have kids because I'd prefer to do that with a woman in wedlock who I actually love and when we're financially stable enough for kids. This is called being responsible.

@basilfawlty89 Nothing in this post says all parents are good. It just says people who haven’t been married, raised kids or still with their patents are not experienced enough to give life advice.
Then you two showed up 😆

@AdmiralPrune which two? I'm just seeing this cause I'm friends with Kali and Elessar.
Maybe not with marriage or raising kids, but certainly in other aspects.
Typically, if I need surgery, I consult a surgeon, not the first parent with spawn I see.

@AdmiralPrune marriage and parentkng isnt the acme of life experience
@MethDozer It definitely helps. It’s a series of situations that change you as a person. If you haven’t walked a mile in those shoes, you don’t know what it is.

@AdmiralPrune nor does being a married parent mean you have any more authority on life advice

Anecdotes aren't data.
Just because you've never experienced something, doesn't mean it doesn't occur.
I've never had rectal polyps.
Doesn't mean other peoples don't

@AdmiralPrune from which you personally observed, hence an anecdote.
Did you actually do a formal study, research, use control, do surveys? Did you follow the scientific method for said study?

@basilfawlty89 No we just counted the amount of court applications.
I guess that means it was told to us by a talking frog, right?
Or is counting also anecdote.
Jimmy has two beans. He adds two more beans.
What does. He have? An anecdote.
