What is the deal with shaving your private parts?

I tried it once, well I lost a bet (long story) and it the area was as rough as sandpaper the day after. I can’t imagine that would be comfortable for either party during coitus..

I don't always shave my genital area, but every once in a while I'll get tired of the hair. It feels very smooth and sexy after I've finished shaving the area, and it feels great during sex or masturbating.
I usually find that it takes a few days before I have to decide whether to re-shave it or to let it grow back....and I usually re-shave it a few times before I let it grow out again
