It boggles my mind when people are annoyed that they could of shown empathy.

You're not annoyed, you're embarrassed that you don't do anything to help others unless it suits you. So you make people who are feeling bad, also feel like they're too much. Sometimes I read stuff here and I go through the day in my real life, and the apathy and preoccupation with self has gone a little far. Social media exposes those inner thoughts. Hiding behind a screen, a facade, a tribe of people who will agree to anything. I remember the feeling of community, I know it existed. It's only a dream now.

I don't always feel empathy. The good news is that I don't need to in order to stay true to my sense of fairness and try to help where I can. Most likely because I look at things through bigger chain of consequences and connections and not in isolation.
@Miram there's still something in you that drives you to do the right thing, an innate compassion because of your own experience.

I don't know everything you've been through, but I've seen many people who've struggled a lot less acting like it's self care to ignore their kids, be rude to others and hurt other living things.
