"Things do happen for a reason. But do we like the reason? Rarely."

There was a point where I stopped trying to look forward. Life became nothing but a focus on the past and present. Little by little it feels like the past is chipping away. A foundation that I've probably let myself rely on too much for support is crumbling. It's making it harder to see the hope that's out there. I don't recognize myself anymore. This world around me doesn't feel familiar and lacks the inviting moments.

Well put. It seems like there's been polar shift where the young think it's their position to teach the old, as if the future didn't come through us. There are other factors/issues to consider, the rate of technological advancement being one of them

The way we engage society is completely different now and things that used to be perfectly acceptable are now completely taboo

One more thing to consider might be your age. It could be a midlife crisis or its aftermath, or possibly inflation caused by such an event.
