Going down slow

on a slow elevator
that won't go to the top
a man with many problems
that he's never going to stop,

-pushes in the buttons
that only takes him down ..
and every floor it opens for
is someone with a frown;

they ride together silently
as the shaking car descends
they could have done things differently
of that they all contend

but greed and pride and
free-will thrills
and all that evil stuff..
makes no abasement
too deep or dark enough.

each bell dings for thee
and nothing could be greater
than to know what makes us free

better now than later
each rider would agree
