Are 1984 babies the same generations as babies born in 1996 because they’re all in the millennial category

I mean someone born in 1984 is 12 years older than someone born in 1996. How would they even be in the same generation? They’re childhood and high school years are different.
1984 babies graduated from high school in 2002/2003 depending on their birthdays and 1996 babies graduated in 2014/2015 depending on their birthdays. Those are two different times. Just saying.

Well those names are just made up usually by business or marketing people or whatever

There’s not always a good reason for it or any consistency

I mean most people probably don’t even realize Millennial was originally called Generation Y but people just liked millennial better

I know at some level everything is made up, but these generation labels especially are just kind of thrown together and don’t really mean anything
What of people born in 1983? 😅
A "generation" is considered to be a 30 year span. So 1984 and 1996 are the same "generation".
